Prepare a Travel/Medical Kit Whether you plan to simply go to the neighbor islands, travel out of Hawaii or vacation abroad, a Travel/Medical Kit can be the next best thing to taking Dr. Fidele and the office (really, we wouldn't mind!)
Here's what to pack:
Travel/Medical Kit * Prescription medicine(s) * Vitamins w/ minerals * Fever / Pain Relievers acetaminophen, ibuprofen * First Aid Supplies band aids, bandages, elastic bandages, alcohol wipes antibiotic ointment (e.g.Bacitracin) tweezers, scissors, nail clipper (check with your airlines regarding carry on restrictions... otherwise, pack tweezers, scissors, nail clippers in check-in baggage.) * Cough and Cold medicines * Anti-gas / antacid medicine (as needed) * Sunscreen (SPF 30 or greater) * Sunglasses * Eyeglasses contact lenses and solutions * Insect Repellent * Anti-itch cream / Hydrocortisone 1% * Plastic sealable bags * Motion Sickness Remedy * Diphenhydramine (e.g. Benadryl) * Thermometer * Hand Wipes * Medical Alert Cards * Medical Info Sheet containing: Any Allergic Reactions Any Medical Conditions Medicines Needed Age, Height, Weight Emergency Contact Information Medical Insurance Information For Patients of Dr. Fidele: Dr. Fidele's Name and Contact information (office & after hours phone number, office address) * Travelers' Checks * Passport (as needed) * Visa (as needed) * Identification Make photo copies of Passport, Visa and ID. Do not carry them with the originals. In case the originals are lost or stolen, getting a replacement should be easier.
A Happy Flight with Kids A plane ride with kids need not be a traumatic experience. Plan in advance and talk to your kids on what to expect and what's expected of them (e.g., stay close, quiet voice is required on the plane and to remain seated as opposed to standing / jumping on seat). Be sure to check with your airlines on carry on/packing guidelines.
What to Pack: * Healthy Snacks/Juices Pack small bags of "easy snacks": that do not require refrigeration. These are perfect bring alongs: healthy, "easy snacks": dry cereal (cheerios), animal cookies, raisins, packaged cheese -n- crackers, fig newtons... Pack small juice boxes in plastic sealable bags (to prevent leakage). *A "fun bag" Fill this with child's favorite small books, crayon & coloring book, small quiet toys finger puppet, activity book. If your child is old enough, have him/her pack a backpack of their own. A CD/Tape player with headphones and a few favorite music / audio books are perfect for older kids. *Carry on bag should include a change of clothing and extra underwear.
For Baby * Disposable diapers and wipes * Car seat & collapsible stroller * Change of clothing, jacket * Bathing supplies * Large plastic bags for wet clothes It can be used as a waterproof sheet if needed * If bottle feeding, bring formula and bottled water to mix formula * Nursing pads, bibs, burp pads * Baby powder/lotion * Pacifier. Bring a "back up" pacifier just in case you lose (egad!) the other one. Secure pacifier to baby's clothing to prevent losing the pacifier which is normally followed by a crying fit. * Favorite blanket, a quiet comfy toy, teething ring
